GRILLED GINGER PEAR GOUDA SANDWICHES

Elevate your grilled cheese sandwiches! These easy pan-grilled sandwiches are stuffed with melted gouda and our Ginger Pear Chutney.

GRILLED GINGER PEAR GOUDA SANDWICHES

Ingredients

  • 8 slices smoked Gouda cheese
  • 8 slices Rye Bread or store-bought rye bread
  • 1/2 cup Ginger Pear Chutney
  • 4 tsp salted butter, softened

Directions

  1. Place 1 slice of cheese on each of 4 bread slices. Top each cheese-topped bread slice with 2 tbsp Ginger Pear Chutney, spreading evenly, and 1 additional slice of cheese. Cover with remaining bread slices.
  2. Using 1 tsp butter for each sandwich, spread butter evenly over top and bottom of sandwich.
  3. Grill sandwiches in batches in a large non-stick frypan over medium heat until sandwiches are golden brown and cheese is melted, about 3 minutes per side.

GINGER PEAR CHUTNEY

Ingredients

  • ​1 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 3 firm ripe pears, peeled, cored and diced (about 3 cups)
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1/2 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice

Yield: Makes about 2 cups.

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a medium non-reactive saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add pears and ginger; sauté until pears are softened, about 4 minutes. Add wine and cook, stirring, until wine is almost evaporated. Stir in vinegar, maple syrup and lime juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thickened, about 25 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Transfer chutney to a heatproof bowl and cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally. May be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
