TRIO OF DIPS

These three seasoning mixes can be combined with sour cream and mayo to create quick and easy dips for chips or veggies. Package the three together in jars for an easy gift. The mixes can also be used to season popcorn.

Yield: French onion: Makes 1/3 cup Dill pickle: Makes 1/4 cup Spicy chipotle: Makes 1/2 cup

FRENCH ONION DIP MIX

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp golden granulated sugar crystals or packed golden brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp fennel seed
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp thyme, crumbled

90 calories, 7.7 g fat, 0.9 g protein, 2.7 g carbohydrate, 0.2 g fibre, 187 mg sodium

DILL PICKLE DIP MIX

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp dill weed
  • 2 tbsp mixed pickling spice
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Spicy Chipotle Dip Mix

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp golden granulated sugar crystals or packed golden brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground chipotle chile pepper
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp caraway seed
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Grind all ingredients in a spice mill or coffee grinder. Alternatively, all ingredients may be ground using a mortar and pestle.
  2. To Make Dip: Combine 3/4 cup sour cream, 3 tbsp mayonnaise, 2 tbsp Mix and 1 tbsp water until blended. May be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
