Veggie Quick Tricks

Easy ways to zip up your vegetables

Getting your family to eat their veggies can be a real struggle and we understand. Avoid stress and frustration at the dinner table by trying some different flavours with our veggie quick tricks and some of our popular veggie side dishes.

 

For carrots, asparagus, green beans, cauliflower, broccoli or leafy greens, try these ideas: 
  • Toss with balsamic vinegar instead of lemon juice. 
  • Toss with butter and a squirt of prepared mustard.  
  • Drizzle with warm honey mustard.  
  • Sprinkle with toasted bread crumbs, fresh or dried herbs and freshly ground pepper.  
  • Toss with soy sauce and a bit of minced garlic or ginger.  
  • Sprinkle with lime juice and chopped fresh cilantro.  
  • To add crunch, sprinkle with toasted walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seed or slivered almonds. 
  • Add a dollop of yogurt, sour cream or nacho cheese dip. 
  • For flavour and colour, add capers or finely chopped red or green bell peppers. 

 

For beets, try these ideas: 
  • In the pan, heat beets with butter or olive oil and balsamic or sherry vinegar. Shake pan until liquid evaporates.  
  • Toss with small amount of cornstarch dissolved in orange juice. Add grated orange peel; heat to thicken.  
  • Toss with lemon juice, brown sugar, and a bit of ginger and dry mustard
